Duties and Qualifications
Position Duties
Closing date: 5:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. This full-time temporary assignment will last approximately 3 months. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 pm Under the direct supervision of the Veterinarian in the Spay and Neuter Clinic, prepare animals for surgery, monitor conditions before, during and after surgery; administer anesthetic and clean and assemble surgical materials and equipment. • Prepare and administer preanesthetics, vaccines and other drugs/medications to animals under the direction of the Veterinarian; administer and monitor intravenous, intramuscular and inhalation anesthetics; intubate animals for gas anesthesia. • Restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments when loading them into individual cages and when administering preanesthetics, vaccines and other drugs/medications. • Prepare animals for ovariohysterectomy and orchiectomy surgery by shaving, vaccinating, scrubbing, and disinfecting the surgical site. • Assist veterinarian during surgery, monitor rate and depth of animal's respiration, heart rate and color of mucous membranes; administer antibiotics and vaccines as indicated; provide supplies and adjust anesthetic levels. • Monitor post-operative condition; alert and assist veterinarian with emergencies. • Clean, disinfect, or sterilize surgical supplies and equipment such as towels, wraps, drapes, instruments, clinic attire, and syringes. • Monitor supply inventory and order supplies when needed. • Admit and discharge animals; sell animal licenses. • Clean, feed, water and exercise animals; clean animal cages. • Wash clinic linens; load washing and drying machines with cloths. • Stock supply cabinets. • Operate and oversee the maintenance of the autoclave.
Required Qualifications
Two years of experience as a registered veterinary technician in the care and treatment of animals, including one year assisting a licensed veterinarian in an animal clinic or hospital. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Computer skills, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook. Data entry skills. Washington State Driver’s License. Must be registered as an Animal Technician with the State of Washington.
